In this article, I will introduce the solution to stop Outlook from automatically marking email as Read when you clicking them in the mail list.
Stop Outlook from automatically marking emails as read
To stop Outlook from automatically marking emails as read when switching them in the mail list, you need to change the options of Reading Pane.
1. In the Mail view, click View > Reading Pane > Options. See screenshot:
2. In the Reading Pane dialog box, please uncheck both Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane and Mark items as read when selection changes options. See screenshot:
Note: Alternatively, you can also specify the options as follows: (1) check the Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane option, (2) enter the average time you spend on reading an email, and (3) uncheck the Mark item as read when selection changes option. See screenshot:
3. Click the OK button to save the changes.
From now on, when you switch unread emails in the mails list with the Reading Pane turning on, these emails will not be marked as Read automatically.

Auto preview unread messages in Outlook 2013
In Outlook 2013, the auto preview unread items function is removed. For auto previewing the unread messages, there is a trick for you.
1. Get into the email folder which the unread emails are staying.
2. Click View > Message Preview > 3 Line to enable the auto preview function. See screenshot:
3. And a prompt box will pop out to remind you that you can apply this preview setting to all mailboxes or current folder, choose your need option, see screenshot: File and mp3 tag renamer 2.2 keygen free.
4. Then click Unread above the mail list to filter all unread messages out.
Then you can see all unread emails are listed out with three lines auto preview.
Note: This method is applied to all emails both read and unread messages.

In Outlook 2010 and 2007, please do as follows.
1. Get into the email folder.

In Outlook 2007, click View > Current View > Customize Current View.
3. In the Advanced View Settings/Customize View dialog box, click the Other Settings button.

5. Click the OK button in the following dialog box to finish the setting. And this feature is only applied to unread messages.
Note: This method only works on the current folder you selected.
